2016 catch up with the ladies@Mrs James’s home

We finally, finally, finally managed to squeeze in another rendezvous catch up session at Bluerribonkate’s. I absolutely adore her housing area compound. I’d be jogging with my doggie everyday if I got a place here.

Hands down to the party planner who does everything filled with care and love. We are always intrigued by her dinner party hosting preparation.

We were all given a “welcome drink”, like cocktail sessions prior parties or entering a club haha. Only thing is that our drinks were made with love, freshly blended fruit juice craftily drafted into this cute bottles which she purchased online. Loved every sip of it!

She was busy stir frying away these sliced black pork meat, and we had some intense discussions over the frying pan over the facts and history behind black pork/iberico. Normally, we would just place the meat on the dish and that would be it, but hey, not blueribbonkate! Cute, evenly sized tomatoes as garnish, to decorate the yummylicious black pork slices freshly fried, and simmered over a glass of 07 Bordeaux.

I came with from a light lunch, so yes.. I was famished! Douf did the honour of pouring the Bordeaux while the rest of us helped take the food from the kitchen. Hats off, to starchef Mrs James!

A big fan of French I am.
Tonight from foodventura, to share with James and missus, Miss Golf and Douf, Clarendelle 2007, Bordeaux.

It has a nose of leather, earthy, some red fruits. Rather smooth palate with leather taste, but after breathing for a while, the sweetness became more apparent. It is pleasant to drink on its own without any food.

Portobello mushrooms coated with bacon and breadcrumbs, fried to perfection! Teeheehee. This was definitely WAY BETTER than the mushrooms we had in La….. At least the mushrooms were visible and not shriveled and thinly sliced till they looked like sliced garlic!

Bee hoon. Fried ala home cooked style. Just the way we liked it best. Nothing beats home cooked Bee hoon, which always tastes much nicer, and less oily. Needless to say, the ingredients were also generous! Full of vegs, bacon… Ooohlala!

The dishes were superb. James surely is a lucky lucky lucky man! The food was cleared quickly, bunch of vultures we are! We decided to open a second bottle, courtesy of her hubby’s.

Next round: cheese + bread + a pinot!

The star of tonight’s foodie agenda, was the brie. The creamylicious, soft, yummy brie. Bought from Isetan, KLCC. Missie Golf In Red buys her cheese regularly from there, and my jaw dropped when she shared that this gigantic slice of brie cost her only RM 11.77. (Need….to…push…up….my…dropped….jaw…with….my….hands)

Darn. That was the cheapest price for brie I’ve heard for such a big slab of that creamy yumminess. All the way down to Isetan, KLCC. Phew… Gotta mark down when is she making her next trip. Tumpang!

We heck cared about the calories for the night. Catch up session : no complaints about being fat please!

The Romanian Prahova Valley Pinot Noir. Sweet, citrus, rather round bodied, more direct than the Bordeaux. The crowd liked this bottle also, but among the two, my personal liking went to the Bordeaux. It would be better if we drank it after the Pinot.

Every good dinner must end with a sweet note. Here came, Garrett’s popcorn courtesy of Douf. Gotta say, of all my wine experiences, having with caramel popcorn was a first. Probably wasn’t the best food pairing choice (the over sweetness affected the taste of the pinot), but hey, we ain’t here to rate wines. Still carameliciously fun!

Twas was yet, another fun night. Glad to know great friends who love food and wine. 🙂 time to mark down our busy calendar for the next catch up session!

This year proved to be very different from all my previous CNYs. I left for home on the eve of CNY after Lord’s Day Service instead of the usual few days prior CNY routine. Less of us are home this time around, and we had our steamboat at my home’s backyard inside of the living hall, and the wind was blowing cool breeze the whole night long..hey, even cicadas came to join us this year!

The Muscadet worked well to open up the appetite, while the boys get the food boiling in the steaming hot pot of tomyam soup. Slightly sweet with a little taste of grass and honey and pineapples, glides down pretty smooth. Kinda reminds me of a sauv blanc. It is quite good to drink on its own without food.

But hey, there were 7 of us drinkers so one bottle finished in an instant. I opened the Rioja Reserva 2007 at the same time too to let it breathe. It really needed to.

The first glass after about 15 minutes or so, was quite overwhelming. Heavy, beefy, leathery…very macho man feeling of a drink. Even on the nose too.

But amazingly after leaving it for a good 5 minutes or so, it changed altogether. All that heaviness just got lifted up, into this smooth, reduced leathery, beefy taste, turned a little sweet. I was caught by surprise!

Next thing I know, my dad was ushering to finish up the bottle than leaving any leftovers. Well I was thinking what”s the rush, I don’t have a problem finishing it..little did I know when I went back for the final 1/4 bottle left in the fridge, dad had slurped every last bit of it. @_@…I guess that’s a win for dad’s thumbs up on red wine?

At TLCC earlier Sunday morning, we were also treated with the traditional Korean rice cakes lunch, formally eaten on the Lunar New Year too. This was a great feeling as well to start the New Year with the family of Christ and with the Word of God!

2016’s gonna be a great year for everyone as Father’s with us !
