follow link I was in town running some errands at midday. The dry season was here to stay, not just in Klang Valley but also in the land with the highest rainfall in Malaysia! No doubt, when it is the raining season in Taiping, it pours and pours like Niagara falls, but when its hot…you could easily fry an egg in the open from the rays of sunshine.

Although my car air-conditioning was at its full blast, the heat was at its peak, and I was dehydrated. Somehow rather, my subconscience guided me here after a few turns…and huh??? I am at Ansari Famous Cendol!

Oh well, I found an empty space conveniently located just in front of the shop. It was meant to be-lah!

The entire place was packed with races of all kinds, busy chitterchattering away. After placing my order, I sat down with an old malay man and had a fun talk about how delicious the cendol was.

There you go. The perfect thing to have at 35 degrees. Even better if you are currently perspiring.

The awesome thing about this cendol is that I grew up with it. Coming back here each time to have a bowl, just brings along the whole nostalgic feel. I believe it is also the same expression to the rest of the Taiping-ites who come here for cendol.

Even my mom could not resist the temptation of Ansari’s cendol since the weather was hot and dry. One pack to go, A-neh!

Hold your horses…your jaw is gonna drop when I tell you the cost of each bowl.

3 course meal, literally@Restaurants just next to the park leading to Oryu-Dong MRT station

That night, was one helluva overindulging night. We had 3 different meals and drinks over a span of 6 hours. Cray cray!

All of them were located just next to the park at Oryu-Dong station, on the side where Hotel Gallerya was.

1) Soon-dae authentic korean dinner
2) grilled cuttlefish + peanuts + beer “dessert”
3) fried chicken and more baek-soju supper

Located just few shops away from Chicken Maru, this local Korean restaurant is located on the first floor. Our elder suggested this place since we wanted to dine like the locals and also wanted something healthy.

Before you explore ditching your current job to pursue hair styling, you may recky this possibly interest by cutting kimchis first! Haha.

Spicy preserved chillis. Power packed yo!

This dish is the trademark dish of this restaurant. Known among local Koreans as Soon Dae. Basically pig stomach skin we-wrapped into sausages with rice and pork and pork blood mixed inside.

I tried to force a piece down my throat, but boy…it was nasty. I couldn’t swallow it. This, perhaps, may be just a little too authentic for Malaysians haha.

Spicy stew vegs in hot stone pot! This was uh-mazing! Not to mention healthy as well, I never ate this much vegs at one go in my life. Apparently, the main ingredient for the soup was finely ground baby eels, hence giving the soup a thickened, murky appearance. After half way through my meal, I admit I was craving for meat, something more solid than this.

The proper way to eat this is to wack the entire bowl of white rice into the spicy stewed vegs soup and let the rice pellets absorb in all the nutritious deliciousness till they become plump. Wah seh!

Nothing is left to waste. We were given a jar of very very mild broth, almost like water. The broth was poured into this stone pot where our rice served in, so the burnt remnants of rice would come off and when you eat them, you would get this burnt charcoal rice taste, much like the end effects of eating your claypot chicken rice back in Malaysia.

Pretty cool way of eating! And I also thought that it was also an easier way out for the restaurant owners in terms of cookery utensils cleaning. We had already got the job half done!

After the soon dae meal, we chilled by the park for a while and some of us did some Tai Chi to “burn some calories”…only to pile them back on with our second meal!

This shop was just right across the street from the Soon Dae restaurant, located on the ground floor itself. We had some grilled cuttlefish topping off with beer+soju.

A little too hard for my liking! Malaysia’s rendition was definitely way better than this one! The lady owner was heavily promoting how beautiful Korea was to us and encouraged us to make time for areas out of Seoul. What a loving lady!

This Hite beer is new to me. Probably recently launched, as I had been watching Hyun Bin’s advert promoting this beer on TV during my time here and also saw some of his posters at the MRT stations. Not bad! Refreshing, crisp, light and bubbly!

When we ended at our second stop, it was nearly 9.30 pm, hey…the night was still young! We crossed over again at the same row where we had our Soon Dae meal and proceeded to Fried Chicken Maru! What caught my eye was “healthily fried” chicken. Really? Fried chicken…can be healthy?

The portion was pretty big! And the chicken pieces were boneless. By far the best fried popcorn chicken I had ever eaten. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, spicy, sweet and best part of all…no thickened batter layer that usually fall off in lousy fried chicken bits. The golden brown crunchy crispy layer was directly from the chicken meat itself.

It was quite hard to resist from eating more as they were so delicious and coupled with 2 more jugs of beer, it was rather easy getting hungry after several gulps.

We closed the night’s gastronomic adventure by 1 am and boy, we were totally goners haha. More of the boys though. Some of us were dead sleepy the next morning, and had to endure puffy eyes and faces from the water retention due to the food and alcohol I take we had the night before. Not to mention, expandee belly line!

Most importantly…we all had a lot of fun especially with our dear friend Paul! Haha.
