Dinner mexicana@Cafe Iguana, Singapore

image

Through my various times visiting Singapore,  including my working time here few years ago, I somehow never had the chance to dine in Cafe Iguana, although it is one of very popular places in Singapore. Until now!

Since it is nearby where I stayed, we decided to foodieventure here!

Nachos with salsa dip to open up the tastebuds! Once pop can’t stop!

I ordered the beef steak fajitas, SGD 29. Seriously…we would probably pay near MYR 50 or more for this, with lesser portion. My steak was medium rare, and the portion could feed 2 adults… (although I finished it all myself. Goodness. Phew).

One word….YUMS! Well marinated, full of smoked flavours and beef slices were super tender. My friend’s eyes widened a little when I cleared off the last piece from the sizzling hot plate.

The avocado dipping sauce was UH-mazing. Freshly blended! Yummy!

Now…to eat popiah/spring rolls the English way. Wrap wrap, roll roll, ngarm ngarm ngarm!

The one thing that did let me down was the draft Iguana lager. I expected to be wow-ed more by their own craft brew beer…but it lacked flavour and character to me. I struggled to finish my 330 ml pint too.

Other than that…I absolutely loved my beef steak fajitas. 🙂

Morning cuppa@Toby’s Estate, Rodyk Street, Singapore

timthumb.php

This Asia flagship branch of Toby’s Estate’s is in Singapore, opened in 2011. The day before heading there for a cuppa’, I read up on Toby on the internet, and found his love and passion for coffee so inspiring. Quitted from a lucrative career being a lawyer, he travelled to remote coffee farming areas to witness ground zero. To learn from the experts behind producing good quality coffee beans. Took him 12 years to perfect the art of making kick-ass quality coffee.

This photo of him with these kids in a remote coffee plantation really got to my heart. (this photo was taken from his website)

I took an early morning walk from my hotel to Toby’s Estate, only about 5 minutes away and it was really nice to see people jogging in the morning, mothers taking a stroll with their toddlers, pet lovers walking their gorgeous pups (lifestyle of the rich and famous), families having breakfast, and white collars getting their morning caffeine fix!

image

I could smell the aroma of fresh coffee from out here!

image

The high ceiling, black and wooden themed concept of decor really did make me feel like I was stepping into the turf of serious coffee roasters. The entire place was filled the aroma of freshly ground beans, I loved it! The ecstatic kick of smelling the freshly ground beans from my hand grinder was escalated by thousand folds!

This was one really huge roaster alright! Not just being big, being high and mighty too!

image

As usual, I got my long black, sat down on the long wooden chair, and took a good 5 minutes to chill. Each cuppa cost SGD 4. I had a sip. Looked around. Toke a sniff of the coffee aroma. Let the sip of freshly brewed coffee circled around me mouth. People watch. And just relax. Gosh. For that 5 minutes time frame, I was at peace.

My long black glided down my throat with finesse. Smooth, and clean. Slightly dense in flavour, hints of butter, cocoa, and smokey. I wished I didn’t have to rush back to the hotel and it would’ve been perfect if I could chill here with my cuppa all morning.

A pretty neat marketing idea, to have your cuppa tell you bits and pieces of a story…. makes you want to return to buy another cuppa to know what happens next in the story!

Looking forward to returning here, and hopefully I do get an opportunity to get my cuppa’ from the original estate itself in Australia.
