Besides punching in the numbers, she did the packing too, with the help of an assistant who mainly did the slicing of breads for customers like me, who want everything cut and packed nicely haha.

The breads, pastries and puffs generally looked really hearty and wholesome, perfect for big fans of bread! Her bakes are inspired by Taiwan.

I bought these 🙂 btw, the croissants (mini sized and normal sized ones are available) were amazing. The pastry dough are prepared in very cold temperature, to prevent the butter from melting, I was told that the bakers had to wear winter clothings while baking the croissants!

Lady boss was being nice, and gave me a free Earl Grey scone and a pack of mini croissants. Teeheehee. Perks of having a baker friend. Hurrah!

I bought a milky swirl as well, RM 3. The only time I ate this, and the best one to date was still in Rome, at a local cafe nearby the Vatican. The shape differed slightly from Sarah’s version, as it was cone shaped but the principle was similar.

Milky swirl: swirlilicious, milkylicious, crunchylicious, twirlilicious!

My breakfast for the following day: goes well with a hot cuppa long black. 🙂 the cocoa one fits me more. Dense with dark cocoa flavour, yuummmmssss…

Today is the third day of the bakery’s grand opening launch, if you are one of the first 150 to be there for the final day today, you may stand a chance to get a free signature bread:)

All the best to you Sarah! May Father bless you with more and more success and blessings through The Bake Plan. SS2 neighbourhood, watch out for the new fiery lady on the block yo!

Kopi and roti bakar JB style@Hua Mui, Johor Bahru

image

Every city and every state has their own trademark kopitiam, boasting of its old skool style kopi and roti bakar….JB too, has its own version of famous coffee+bread made ala retro!

Found in Hua Mui, a super rawk looking old skool kopitiam, open since the 1940s and preserved as much as possible to look like how it was back then.

It reminded me so much of the famous corner old skool kopitiam in Hong Kong, but patrons here at mainly locals of multi races, rather than foreign tourists in the Hong Kong one.

The entire area was mainly built and decor-ed with wood and various deer heads were displayed on the white walls, giving the cabin-in-the-wood feel.

You can order the toasted kaya butter version in bread slices or buns. You can tell from the colour itself, that this was a job nicely done on those buttery creamy layer of goodness!

image

A proof to the chef’s sincerity in ensuring each slice is well covered with fragrant butter. Bye bye calories!

I was seated near the window on the 1st floor, cold breeze blowing in, trees and people watching from up here with a hot cuppa local style kopi panas… was a pretty awesome feeling!

Total damage was only RM 7.40 for 2 cuppas and 2 toasts.

It is awesome to know that Hiap Joo Bakery is just nearby, thus we dropped by after a quickie breakfast at Hua Mei. The first time I bought em’ banana cakes, I was blown away by the freshness of its taste and the moistness and denseness of the cake. I am happy to be back for more this time!

Being crazed driven by these charcoal baked banana cake, i bought 5 boxes in total (each cost RM9). For 10-12 slices each for RM9, worth every single penny-la! Be warned. Addiction is quick. Damage may be upon your bellies as consumption may be easily increased to 3 slices or more…or entire boxful!
