Happy Chinese New Year to all foodieventurers who are celebrating! :)

This year proved to be very different from all my previous CNYs. I left for home on the eve of CNY after Lord’s Day Service instead of the usual few days prior CNY routine. Less of us are home this time around, and we had our steamboat at my home’s backyard inside of the living hall, and the wind was blowing cool breeze the whole night long..hey, even cicadas came to join us this year!

The Muscadet worked well to open up the appetite, while the boys get the food boiling in the steaming hot pot of tomyam soup. Slightly sweet with a little taste of grass and honey and pineapples, glides down pretty smooth. Kinda reminds me of a sauv blanc. It is quite good to drink on its own without food.

But hey, there were 7 of us drinkers so one bottle finished in an instant. I opened the Rioja Reserva 2007 at the same time too to let it breathe. It really needed to.

The first glass after about 15 minutes or so, was quite overwhelming. Heavy, beefy, leathery…very macho man feeling of a drink. Even on the nose too.

But amazingly after leaving it for a good 5 minutes or so, it changed altogether. All that heaviness just got lifted up, into this smooth, reduced leathery, beefy taste, turned a little sweet. I was caught by surprise!

Next thing I know, my dad was ushering to finish up the bottle than leaving any leftovers. Well I was thinking what”s the rush, I don’t have a problem finishing it..little did I know when I went back for the final 1/4 bottle left in the fridge, dad had slurped every last bit of it. @_@…I guess that’s a win for dad’s thumbs up on red wine?

At TLCC earlier Sunday morning, we were also treated with the traditional Korean rice cakes lunch, formally eaten on the Lunar New Year too. This was a great feeling as well to start the New Year with the family of Christ and with the Word of God!

2016’s gonna be a great year for everyone as Father’s with us !

Wan Tan Mee hunting escapades@Famous Seremban Favourites, Aman Suria

No today ain’t Saturday, but is a blissful Monday holiday. Despite the immense El Nino heat outside, ain’t no stopping the Wan Tan Mee craving!

Took a breezy drive to Aman Suria in search for the Wan Tan Mee one of our old church friends brought us once, and all I could remember was the crazy heat (like this one) and the mind blowing char siew and curry sauce. It was at SFS Kopitiam, in Aman Suria.

The crowd was just half full when I arrived, and I thought hey, perhaps it was a holiday and everyone is hiding indoors from the fiery sun. I looked at the photos on the Wan Tan Mee stall and the old lady cooking. It didn’t really feel right but I couldn’t fully remember either the cook and the stall the last time I was here 3 years ago.

I went ahead to order a plate. And oh well, the image spoke for itself. Overly eggy noodles and hardened char siews. This definitely was not the one I had 3 years ago. I searched online but still unable to find where the stall had shifted to. This one cost RM 5, and the old lady seemed to be working so hard, I felt that it was alright with me to let her earn the RM5 wages.

Feeling disappointed and frustrated while walking out of SFS (the heat can really boil one’s mood up) , I recalled my colleague’s recommendation, of the best charsiew Wan Tan noodles he ever had and it was from a shop called Seremban which had nothing to do with Wan Tan noodles.

Circled around the entire Aman Suria and found the next best thing.

Strangely, the shop is FSF Kopitiam, while the one I was at previously was SFS. Gosh, they are totally playing around with our minds man. Trying to confuse us haha.

I felt more comforted seeing a crowded shop and with yummy looking charsiews hung on that metal rails behind the glass paneled wall. Every table seemed to have at least one bowl of WTM and Hakka Mee, so I guess they should be quite good for so many to come here for it

I guess my colleague’s recommendation was noteworthy. The charsiew slices were quite tender, with evenly distributed lean meat and fats so you can just swallow it whole! If I had to describe it in one word – TENDER !

The Wan Tan noodles was quite good to me. The noodles were springy get soft. And no overly eggy taste. Then again, my tongue had been a little damaged by the plate I had earlier and comparing this to that, was like heaven and earth.

Perfect to slurp with by topping it with dashes of spicy garlic chilli sauce.

The Hakka noodles on the other hand, was I guess, alright. The one in SS2 near De Siam Thai Massage rawked better, but the best Hakka noodles are definitely still in Ipoh and Kuching.

All in all, the damage was only RM 20 for everything including drinks. I expected to pay more with the additional charsiew order. Gotta say pricing is unexpectedly decent for such quality!

Noteworthy to return for another WTM craving!

Does anyone know where the SFS Kopitiam Wan Tan Noodles have gone to?
