Finger-lickin’ supper foodie@Nanda Chicken난다 치킨 , Solaris Mont Kiara

Probably an unwise choice for health freaks and exercise junkies, but this was our supper after a sweaty 2 hour badminton marathon. Usually my post-badminton supper/dinner is cereal but since I have another badminton kaki who wants to have a meal after our game, we headed to Nanda Chicken, a nice Korean fried chicken hangout joint I spotted a couple of weeks ago.

It was a Friday night, and a typical Friday night in Seoul by this time of 1030pm, calls for localites already loud-voice, red faced, soju bellied, partying and drinking their way through Saturday morning. But for Solaris Mont Kiara on a Friday night, was quiet and somewhat obedient. I always wondered, where do the Korean expats rendezvous their typical Korean Friday outings in KL?

There were several tables filled up in Nanda (located opposite Salt & Lick, same row with Raju’s), but it was generally quiet inside, with K-Pop girls dancing and singing on TV. 

The food was served with some tidbits, just like any typical bars in Korea, but the only difference was that the tidbits were Indian crackers! Lol. I do recall off and on, there is a keropok Indian seller by the roadside running his business, I’m guessing they came from there.

We ordered a bottle of beer and soju (so much for 2 hours of badminton. Down the drain!)

Overall, the chicken was crazy tenderlicious! Juicy madness and you don’t get those thick batter layers which fall off when you bite them. Gotta say Nanda serves really yummy fried chicken! 

Strange part of the entire dish again, was having Indian keropok on top, perhaps it’s a fusion thing to blend in with the Malaysians’ palate lol.

Total damage including drinks came up to about RM100, an equal split of cost between the chicken and the booze.

Nanda does home deliveries as well, which I have given a try and the packing is of good quality! The chicken chunks also remained their crunchiness, and I regretted attempting to win the fiery battle against the spicy chicken chunks. After a couple of pieces, my tongue was already numb and my belly became a hot pot. 

Worthy foodieventure place for those who wants to have Korean style fried chicken, but what is lacking is the whole feel of crowdedness with red-faced happy loud voiced people around you enjoying the fried chicken together.

Foodie day filled with tranquility@ Paul & Paulina 폴앤폴리나, Namusairo 나무사이로 & Shimson Tang 심슨탕

The week of meeting had finally ended. Woohoo! Even though I left the hotel room in the evening after clearing off the pending work mails, I didn’t want to waste any second of the bit of time left.

Coughing and sneezing away through this chilly weather ain’t stopping me from re-kindling my love for Paul & Paulina 폴앤폴리나  and Namusairo 나무사이로. It took me a good 20 minute walk to reach here. And I was lucky! To get the last few croissants before waiting another 1 hour or so for the next batch.

I got all excited too, knowing I’d be bringing them home and eating them on weekends. Kekeke.

Meantime, after the 20 minute stroll with clogged nose and a temperature, worked up an appetite. I’ll officiate one croissant first with a freshly brewed cuppa americano from Namusairo, enjoying every sip and bite at the courtyard of the quaint wooden house. Surely wished my home was like Namusairo!

The only downside was my clogged my nose and sore my throat was, which hampered the taste of my delicious croissant and americano…but I’m not complaining teeheehee. The tranquility. Finally. After a long week of noise.

These medications were given by a retail pharmacist who knew his shop would be visited by many foreigners who are unable to speak Korean. It was kinda cute to point out my symptoms on a card filled with cartoon drawings of a kid coughing, having a flu, fever, tummy ache and all sorts (language limitation).

I’ve never seen these meds before, since it is locally made. I have to say, it was my first time swallowing a sachetful of powdery like stuff, which looked like the powdered chrysanthemum mixed drink I used to make when I was in school, except I don’t add it with water.

A little choking I gotta say, assuming I ate it right. Surprisingly, the meds somehow did a rather good job at suppressing my cough and cleared off my clogged nose.

I rested for a bit in the hotel after the taking the meds. The chills and temperature was rising again.

The nap and meds sure helped! It relieved off some of the symptoms, I was feeling a bit better, and came out for dinner. Decided to hop on the train to Hongik since it was a Friday night.

Wow, Friday was “the day” to come to Hongik. A little crazy crowded, but the whole place was filled with youthful vibrance. There were some pretty good youths performing by the road side.

This guy in particular, must have been a regular and popular performer in Hongik. There were girl groupies all lined up at front row seats cheering for him and he was pretty suave with his guitar skills and husky voice. A Korean Jason Mraz-like performer.

There were some highschool kids doing their flash mob dance not far from here too. Pretty talented bunch, these youths. I guess talent scouts will be hanging around here to spot potential ones too.

I wanted to have a BBQ dinner, but every BBQ place in Hongik was packed. Madness! There was just no room for one.

Guess it was also better for my throat.

I found this shop, Shimson Tang 심슨탕, located at a quieter corner of Hongik/Hongdae area and all the scouting and walking in the chilly 16degree temp worn me out a little.

I decided to dine here seeing there was a spot fitting for a one pax dinner.

It was a rather quaint looking restaurant, a mixture of old and new feel. Pots and pans were hung on the ceiling, while the place was surrounded by books and magazines, new and old, and the wall by the exit/payment counter, displayed the signatures of famous celebrities.

They played this video of celebrities coming over to eat this restaurant’s famous dish: Bu Dae Jigae.

The demo video worked for me: ordered it and followed the proper method of enjoying this Bu Dae Jigae meal.

The portion was huge! Seeing the fiery red pot, I was a little worried for my inflamed throat but..those pretty ladies in the video gave me the courage to embrace through this yummylicious looking dish!

Unique part of this, was throwing in cubes of butter. Literally. Chunks of butter were given, and when you throw them in, the boiling pot of soup became dense, thickened and the fragrant aroma of butter filled even through my clogged nose.

The ingredients were mainly chopped sausages and spam luncheon meat, and bits of pork, onions and potatoes. Koreans really do enjoy their sausages and luncheon meat, but I am not that big of a fan. Nonetheless, the dish was yummylicious!

They gave various types of sliced sausages and the pork was tender. Coupled with the chilly weather, this dish surely warmed up the body!

Crazy mad, despite the inflamed throat and the gigantic portion, I managed to finish up the soup! Haha.

Interesting find from an aimless stroll. I only knew more of this place when I read up on it after. Seems it is opened by a popular football star in Korea.

Each pot cost about KRW 8000 and above), pretty decent deal!

Alright, now that my tummy is full. Time for another round of stroll around Hongik!
