It was an impromptu trip to have a tonkatsu dinner..especially when we were all smelly and sweaty from the badminton game! Probably the worst looking people in the restaurant..but when craving calls…even smelly and sweaty outlooks can’t stop it!

” title=”IMG_20141012_183643.jpg” src=”http://foodventura.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/wpid-img_20141012_183643.jpg” alt=”image” width=”513″ height=”691″ />

The first time I tried Tonkatsu was at One Utama, which was quite good but couldn’t beat the one I had in Kyoto. This was my second time to Tonkatsu, but a newly opened branch near home. I was so famished after a lengthy 2 hour game that when this blended radish came, it disappeared in an instant!

Hurrah! My food arrived soon after. And boy…I was quite surprised how the tonkatsu served here was a lot nicer than the one in One Utama. Now this one could match up near the one in Kyoto but of course the lacking part which would be hard to change here is the quality of our pork. Other than that, the cooking was stellar!

” title=”IMG_20141012_184623.jpg” src=”http://foodventura.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/wpid-img_20141012_184623.jpg” alt=”image” width=”713″ height=”528″ />

A close view of the juicylicious pork loin half dipped with the sweetened sauce. Okay…move aside, I am ready to gobble!!!

” title=”IMG_20141012_184639.jpg” src=”http://foodventura.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/wpid-img_20141012_184639.jpg” alt=”image” width=”707″ height=”524″ />

The other side was the pork belly which you can clearly see the 3 layers from the sliced pork from here. And I love the brown rice here…healthy plump and nutritious! Oh yea, they are refillable as well. Something Malaysians love to hear!

” title=”IMG_20141012_185641.jpg” src=”http://foodventura.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/wpid-img_20141012_185641.jpg” alt=”image” width=”478″ height=”644″ />

The miso soup was also really good. Full of flavours and not too salty. Yummmmmsss.

” title=”IMG_20141012_190052.jpg” src=”http://foodventura.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/wpid-img_20141012_190052.jpg” alt=”image” width=”488″ height=”658″ />

Oh yea the thinly sliced cabbages, full of freshness and water which would go so amazing with the sesame dressing, once poured…the waters from the cabbage would all be absorbed into the sesame dressing. Best way part of all….refillable too! This was my second serving of cabbages. No harm to eat more vegs πŸ™‚

Each set cost about RM30 which personally, is worth it. The food is good and you will leave the place feeling so satisfied and full.

I’ll be back soon when my pocket is a little full for a good meal treat!

Fresh seafood binge@Uokatsu, Plaza Damas 3

We are back for more wholesome Jap foodie goodness, with a fraction of the price and comfort of slippers, shorts and pariah shirts!

Don’t worry, Uokatsu is still opened, just that the banner was removed from the front of Plaza Damas 3, so it is not visible for drivers on the main road (which broke my heart for a good 5 minutes thinking they had closed down permanently…but I persevered, and I walked up to the restaurant to confirm it…glad it was not!)

Hello again seared cured trout!

Hello again squidie! Hello again grilled mackerel! Ngarm ngarm ngarm ngarm ngarm!

We didn’t really know how to perform an operation on this good snow crab which was sacrificed to serve us. Lady owner then came over and demonstrated her skills with this special funky shaped scissors. I guess this may be one of the ways how some people develop the liking to be surgeons haha.

The snow crab’s meat was sweet and fresh. Thank you mr.crab!

Yellowtail with rice, hearty meal alright! Btw, the wasabis here are freshly home made and boy oh boy, they really do kick up a zing factor!

The salmon sashimis were really good too. One word: fresh! Even better than those high end Jap restaurants. The chef ensures every dish lifts up to his quality set benchmark.

Total damage per pax was RM40. Considering the amount and variety of fresh seafood we had, the price tag was really quite worthy.

Keep up the good work, Oukatsu team! You may want to check your airconditioning, and it was a little too warm unlike the time when I first came here.
