Essence Restaurant is also another highly rated restaurants in Hanoi, and we managed to get a booking tonight as well. The decor was quite lovely here but the place was filled with mainly tourists. I guess everyone just follows Tripadvisor and came back to the same places.
One thing I have learnt here is that orange juice in Vietnam is actually tamarind juice, which is slightly sweet and with a sour taste at the end. I’d much prefer the orange juice we drink conventionally.
Tonight, indeed, was a spring roll galore. We had 3 different serving styles of spring rolls and before the mains came we were already full! This was the paper rolls wrapping with vege and peanut fillings. To be dipped in with sweet and spicy sauce. This was so so to me.
The standard minced pork spring rolls is a must for all vietnamese dining. Frankly, it really reminds me of our local “bak kian”. They were delicious on our first day here but after having them for 4 consecutive days..the last thing in my mind are spring rolls.
We even had another spring rolls dish which came in sticks, stuck onto a pineapple. A little too extravagant for me I must say.
All in all, the food here was also so so to me. Not like the kind of highly rated reviews written on tripadvisor. This further confirms my personal hypothesis that food of this quality is one of the best you can get in Hanoi.
