Our initial intention was to have the first BBQ dinner at the mini mall right behind New Kukje Hotel, recommended by our hotel concierge but the restaurant was so full that they would not even consider any walk-ins!
Cravings being cravings: that night was meant for BBQ and nothing else could satiate our tummy notions.
We randomly walked in between the shops through those tiny lanes behind Cafe Mamas. An early night (only 8 pm) and people were starting to get drunk outside. Cray!
We walked in the next available BBQ shop. Packed place, mostly locals. Worth a try.
First up – Somaek! I absolutely LOVE drinking this at winter. Particularly soju alone. It was mysteriously sweeter than usual times, and flowed smoothly down the throat. Likely psychology, ’cause of the warmth it gave to the body during winter? I haven’t quite gotten it figured out.
But the feeling of drinking soju and somaek at winter – AMAZING.
The beef slices were not bad honestly, flavourful and chewy but a little lacking on the smokeyness from the grilled charchoal. The best I have had was still Maple Tree branch at MyeongDong, the charcoal was already white but still burning hot. Unfortunately this restaurant had closed down! Bummer! How to replace the best BBQ beef place?
It was a super psyched night for me. After a couple of soju and somaek shots – happy happy! And I managed to catch several minutes of light snow flurries while walking nearby the beautifully decorated river canals at City Hall. It was my FIRST experience of seeing snow coming down from the sky! Very pwetty indeed!
Too bad it only lasted for several minutes. But enough to be beaming smiles to face. Praying for heavier snow in the next few days!
