I have not done justice to my FV readers and myself in the past months due to the long hours of work everyday. Bian hapnida! I’ve got to write up all the posts long overdue!
Let’s roll back twin months: CNY back at home in Taiping!
Despite the rising temperature, blazing heat during the festive season, it wasn’t stopping anyone from indulging in sinful food of all sorts. Curry mee, cooked by both my mom and aunt, is a routine annual Day 1 of CNY lunch food. Perfect for a 40 degree weather!
Some TLCC friends came back to Taiping for a short break as well and we headed to Lake Gardens hawker centre for dinner. I was baffled to know I myself, a born and bred in Taiping-ite have yet to try the grilled seafood at this popular stall.
Grilled sting ray, was wow…mind blowing. Fresh, soft on the inside and yet crunchy on the outside. It was kaboom-ly delicious! The Chee Cheong Fun however was just so-so.
This curry grilled squid was also equally delicious! Coupled with the softened sweetened grilled shallots, it would go perfectly well with an icey cold beer.
We also ordered a tilapia (I think) which was perfectly grilled too, to maintain the softness and freshness of the flesh but the thin crunchy outer layer locked in the smokey grilled flavour. Yums!
I’ll definitely head over there on my own next time I’m home! To think, an out-of-towner introducing a Taiping-ite what’s good in Taiping! Gosh. I really gotta buck up my foodiventure escapades in my own hometown!
